YUCAN - Make a Difference
Welcome to YUCAN

A YOUNG ADULT CATHOLIC COMMUNITY
Having friends, meeting with friends and exhanging ideas is important. YUCAN is a Sydney based community of young adult Catholics. Our aim is to grow a network of young Catholic adults, cultivate a deeper understanding of Catholic / Christian values, and to develop leaders within ours and the greater community. The website is designed to help you find information about YUCAN activities and events.

YOUNG ADULTS ON THE MOVE
YUCAN recognises that there is a difference between the needs of "youth" (people in there early to mid-teens), "movers" (people in there late teens and early 20s like school leavers and uni students) and "shakers" (those in their 20s and 30s - the young adults who are out of uni or have been in the workforce for a while).

YUCAN exists to serve these "shakers" or young adults in their 20s and 30s. who typically lead busy lives. Hence a variety of spaces are organised and created around Sydney for young adults to connect, develop and grow, with like minded people.

The key feature of these spaces are that they are organized by young adults themselves, working in collaboration with priests, religious and experienced laity. Young adult ministry is about ministry BY young adults as well as FOR young adults.

YUCAN - AND ITS ACTIVITIES
Established in 1991, YUCAN is available to assist dioceses, parishes and interested groups in Australia get started in Catholic young adult ministry.

The YUCAN community creates a connection to a fantastic network of individuals all sharing a similar spiritual belief. The activities are designed for our members to grow their Catholic / Christian faith through expert forums, dialogue with speakers, peer discussions and social gatherings. We also aim to develop future leaders of the Catholic community as well as the greater community.

Some of the space, activities and events that YUCAN provide include:

  • DIALOGUE, which is aimed at exploring various faith or community based issues in an environment which enables young adults to be informed, reflect, and honestly discuss with the speaker and other young adults how these issues impact on their lives, or how their lives impact on the issue. Dialogue is held on the first Sunday of each month (February to November) at the Lavender Bay Parish Hall near North Sydney station.
  • BRANCHES is a 10 week journey into faith and life run by young adults that aims to create a space where people can ask questions how to live life to the full and what Catholicism says about this. Each night consists of a meal, a guest speaker and small group discussion.
  • BRANCHING OUT is held at various times of the year and takes the format of Branches and explores various life and relationship Skills. It is presented by a combination of young Adults and guest speakers.
  • TALKING TABLES is held in many parts of Sydney with groups of young adults gathering over a dinner with like minded individuals.
  • The ANNUAL BALL is a great social opportunity to dress up and enjoy a great night together.

At YUCAN we always welcome new participants to join in any of our activities or events.
